December 2023 Business Meeting Minutes

GK Report

  • Welcome to David Grathwohl, Rock Cabagnot and David Watson.  The gentlemen are the three newest members of our council.
  • Brother James Dooley passed away. Mass of Christian Burial is 11:30 AM at Sacred Heart on Jan 12th .

About 180 Individual Surveys submitted. Around 12 ministry surveys. The team is currently compiling and analyzing results on ministry surveys. Work starting on plans for Rectory. Christmas collection used for rectory this year. Next meeting 2/21.

  • The church and school approved the KofC and Daughters area to display a few items in Brincefield Hall.  We are submitting three items. After approval, they will hang them up.
  • NC State Council presented our Council with the STAR award for last year at Mass on Dec 10th

Treasurer Report

Updated membership with checking account balance.

Fundraising committee had its first meeting on 12/12. Logan is leading this effort.

Membership Report

The council currently has 98 Active Members.  Rocky Cabagnot and David Grathwohl attended the Exemplification on Dec 19th. David Watson transferred from Council 770. Need help developing a Spanish Degree Team.  Name badges and certificates ordered.

 

Other Reports

Our programs as Knights of Columbus should help provide encouragement, engagement and evangelization to our parish and the community. We pray that Our Lord will accomplish His will and lead us to holiness, helping us work towards being better men and better disciples.


Family Director – Chris Castille

  • Family of the Month – Chris and Julia Castille were selected for December.
  • Knight of the Month
  • Food for FamiliesSupport Sister Mary Roberts Ministry. Knights are needed to bag up items and help load cars. We need to support Friday 6-8 pm and Saturday morning from about 9-12. The last one was Dec 15th and 16th. Twenty Knights came out over 2 days to make this a success. Over 60 families were served. Hams were donated and added to the surplus turkeys to give away. The next SMRM is 1/19 and 20. 
  • Christmas Party– Due to some misunderstandings and a vote by the CDA, there will not be a combined Christmas Party this year.  We have arranged to have a pot luck at the Revival at the Cresent after Saturday Mass on Dec 30. Brother Bob Gordon is making a donation to assist with the expenses.
  • World Marriage Day – Church resource conflict on 2/10.  It was suggested to postpone for 2 weeks. Gym is not available to the afternoon. Due to proximity to Fish Fries and limited time to prepare.  We will look at a different type of event. Fr. John has agreed to do a marriage blessing at the end of Mass on Feb 10th. We are working with other church groups to find a restaurant to go to together after Mass.

Faith Director – Duane Krzysik

  • Men’s Knight - COR All Men are welcome to come start a new series on the Mission of the Family.  This new dynamic video series proclaims the truth and beauty of the Catholic vision of marriage and family life in the modern world.  Each month had a different focus.   We will explore: 1) The Catholic Family in the Post-Christian World 2) Marriage: The foundation of the Family 3) The gift of Children 4) Healing in the Family and 5) Creating a legacy of Faith. The videos and materials are produced and sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.  The exciting series will start on Feb 1st at 6:30 PM in the Art Room. Men's Night will be on the first Thursday of the month.
  • Holy Hour and Adoration – Knights are signed up for Holy Hour and Adoration on the First Saturday of every month from 7 am to 8 am (immediately before Mass). Next one is on Feb 3rd.
  • Fish Fries – 2/23, 3/8, 3/22. Nick C will be heading this effort up. Need to start planning soon.
  • Support for Bishop Siby Seminarians – Under Aid the Church in Need These are the current projects being funded by ACN: Do we want raise funds for this or contribute individually? How can we get church involved.
  • Nativity set up on 12/16 by 8 brothers. Tom George’s engineering made the assembly better than last year. It was taken down and returned to the shed on 1/8.
  • Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP) – $500 checks were mailed to support out seminarians, Matthew Harrison and Michael Herman. Worked with Luke to help located a replacement car.

Community Director – Jim Bertrand

  • School Free Throw Contest –Has been approved by the School and will be 1/22. Let me know if you can help. More details to follow.  Order Basketballs as first place prize. School helped to send permission slips sent to parents.

Life Director – Len Kobylus

  • Charlotte March for Life – Jan 12th at noon.
  • Special Olympics-
  • Polar Plunge Our council formed a fundraising team for the Polar Plunge. We will also participate in the event on Saturday, March 2 at 1 pm. This is the primary fundraiser for the Rowan Special Olympics. Please support our team by giving using one of he links below

  • Spring Games Our council will also supply volunteers for the Spring Games on April 10th at West Rowan HS.  Let Greg or Len know if you can be a golf partner. Special Olympics need support here.
  • LAMB –Lamb funds will be used to support the Special Olympics in Rowan County.  Working on wrapping up paperwork for year.
  • 4th Degree Report

Next meeting 3rd Thursday at Gil Hall in Concord or via Zoom. New uniforms may be back ordered. Still waiting on further information on upcoming local degree.
